Aurelien is our very first talented photographer that iLHP is glad to showcase thanks to our Flickr Group. His astral photographs and landscape shots are simply outstanding. We’re glad not only to showcase his work but also to provide you with an exclusive interview.

iLHP: Hi Aurelien, I’m very glad to have you here as our first iLHP Flickr group winner! Congratulations, your work is outstanding! Please tell us more about yourself?

Aurelien: Hi Chris, I’m 30 years old, I’m a sports teacher in France. I’m not a professional photographer, just a passionate amateur.

iLHP: How long have you been into photography?

Photographing Paris

A year has now past since I was fortunate enough to be able to call Paris my home. I am now living in Toronto again where I spent most of my life growing up.

When I said farewell to Paris, I left feeling completely heartbroken that my journey had come to an end.  I lived in a quintessential Parisian flat in the 8th arrondissement of Paris just a short walk to Avenue des Champs-Élysées.  I would glance in one direction and be able to lay eyes on the stunning Arc de Triomphe and turn my head the other way and catch a glimpse of Place de la Concorde.

Needless to say, I was not looking forward to moving back to Toronto after living so many years abroad (8 years in the US before France).  I was frightened I would not be able to search deep enough to find any creative inspiration and truthfully, just be bored.  How could one possibly compare the two cities?  Paris is bursting with fascinating history,  extreme elegance and utter romance everywhere your eyes wonder.  As for Toronto, everything appears to be common, newly built and rather uninspiring.

What’s in my bag?

It was just less than a year ago now that I decided to upgrade my camera from an older model Canon (I don’t even know what model) to the Canon 70D.  I thought it was also just the appropriate time to purchase a more functional camera bag.  I opted for a relatively small bag that carried my essentials because the only lens I had at the time was the kit lens, a 18-135mm.

Having a background in fashion and design for many years, I loathed that my camera and bag appeared just like everyone else’s.  I desperately needed something to personalize my camera and and the most effortless way I could to do so was to search for a super neck strap.  I searched extensively online for something that suited my style and was functional.  Comfort was not an issue for me.  Hey as they say, fashion before function.  However, I was astonished the camera strap not only looked great but was comfortable and durable.  Even more so than the generic strap.
